iPhone apps for lawyers

Jeff Richardson of the iPhone J.D. blog posted his “Top Ten iPhone Apps for Lawyers,” via Above the Law.

The Black’s Law Dictonary app, which made its debut last month, came in at the #9 spot. Richardson also had previously posted a review of the app. (We have an interview with the developers at West, here).

In his “Top Ten” post, Richardson also linked to the ABA Journal’s report on iPhone apps, and some findings in the 2009 ABA Legal Technology Survey Report.

On ABA Site-Tation, details of that report show that the number of lawyers using iPhones increased from five percent in 2008 to 14% in 2009. The BlackBerry still has a much stronger pull among lawyers, with 64% saying that’s their preferred smartphone.

By the way, Thomson Reuters also now has the News Pro app for the iPhone/iPod touch – it’s in the top ten for free news apps as I write this.

There’s also a Reuters news app for the Blackberry.

The new Reuters news app for Blackberry is great. It’s very well done and is suprisingly light–doesn’t bog down my phone like other apps do. I use it all the time now.

The iphone app for Black is a true innovation and creative use of this resource. Congratulations.
