Of all the books that I’ve done some communications support for during my work for West and Thomson Reuters, a collection of quotes from Thomas J. Vesper really stands out.
Vesper’s Uncle Anthony’s Unabridged Analogies: Quotes and Proverbs for Lawyers and Lecturers puts him in the Author Spotlight this month on the West website.
Vesper has been saving and stockpiling quotes for years - things lawyers can use when they need a good line in and out of the courtroom.
Like this on the topic of juries, from Vesper’s real Uncle Anthony, his only uncle born in the United States:
“You should never tell anybody what they’re gonna find or decide… …just help ‘em make the right choices for the right reasons.”
The profile on the West site features “7 Questions with Thomas J. Vesper,” which includes his thoughts on how often he uses an entry from his Uncle Anthony book in court:
“Almost every day and sometimes several times a day in legal writing, arguments, and discussions. And in the evening with my two teenaged daughters,” said Vesper.
Vesper is a senior partner in the Atlantic City, N.J. law firm Westmoreland, Vesper & Quattrone, specializing in personal injury and wrongful death cases. He also writes or contributes to several other West titles.
For more with Vesper, you can listen to a Westcast podcast I recorded with him about Uncle Anthony’s Unabridged Analogies, which we featured on WestBlog just about a year ago.
